Thinking For Windows Dedicated Server?

February 13th, 2010

Dedicateed ServersAre you thinking to have a windows dedicated server for your online business or your website? If yes, then you should also think on why windows dedicated servers are so much popular. Here I will ask you to think on which OS do you have on your system? It is just because the home user finds it very user friendly, but it also crashes without a reason. However, windows is important for server owners because of some other reasons and the reasons are as follows.

Microsoft has not only developed windows but there are lots of other software and programs that has made lots of things easy in computing and cybernetic world. For e.g. .Net technology. The websites that are built with this technology, needs windows dedicated servers to support them.

If the databases of your website are built by using MS Access, MS Visual Basic, MS SQL then your server will need windows operating system.  Linux based server cannot support such databases. If you have already used Microsoft web development tools like Visual Interdev or FrontPage,  only windows server can support your website and also if you want to use MS Office programs, windows server is the only option you have.

The only problem with windows dedicated servers is their cost and if you want the features, you will need to spend some good amounts of money.

What is a Dedicated Server? Does it Fit your Requirements?

February 10th, 2010

So what is a dedicated server?

A dedicated server is a server that is leased by client from a hosting provider and is under client’s control. The client is having full access to the server and the server is not shared with anyone else, and the client gets full access to the server’s computing and storage capabilities. The hosting provider usually maintains and upgrades the hardware for all the machines. So you don’t even have to worry about software issues. Some companies like BODhost provides fully managed dedicated servers, so it means that you don’t need to worry about configuring, installing, and maintaining your servers.

Does it Fit your Requirements?

Well…. It depends. If you have just started with small online business or the one whose website does not get many hits, it’s good to be with shared hosting. If you are a company that’s growing or expects to see the rise in traffic, or an eCommerce site that completely needs custom checkout options and lots of CPU usage,  a dedicated servers hosting is the right choice for you.
